Global Butyric Acid Butyric acid/butanoic acid is an oily, colorless chemical with the chemical formula CH3-CH2-CH2-COOH. It is naturally found in milk and other dairy products. Butyric acid is produced by synthetic and bio-based processes. In the synthetic process, butyraldehyde is produced by oxosynthesis using propylene as feedstock, which is subsequently oxidized to produce butyric acid. In the bio-based process, glucose or waste paper is fermented by a bacteria clostridium tyrobutyricum to obtain butyric acid. |
