The Europe exhaust system market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 6.5% from 2014 to 2019. Germany holds the largest market share in the Europe exhaust system market. France is expected to grow at the highest CAGR of 5.4% during the forecast period, followed by the U.K.

To analyze the Europe exhaust system market thoroughly, the market has been segmented in the report on the basis of vehicle type, fuel type, and country. Vehicle type is further segmented into passenger car, LCV, and HCV. Fuel type is classified as gasoline and diesel. Countries taken into consideration are Germany, the U.K. France, and others.

The high sulfur content in diesel is considered one of its biggest shortcomings as a fuel, as the sulfur burns to produce sulfur oxides, which act as carcinogens. However, low sulfur diesel and ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) are two recent advancements in the diesel segment which have raised the demand for diesel vehicles. Hence, the market for diesel-fuelled vehicles is estimated to grow at the highest CAGR of 8.4% from 2014 to 2019, followed by gasoline, growing at a CAGR of 1.5%.

The factors that are driving the growth of the exhaust system market in the region are the recovery of the automotive sector after the crisis of 2008 and the stringent emission standards present in the region. The rising demand for electric vehicles could adversely affect the demand for exhaust systems and thus, restrict the growth of the market in the region.

The Europe exhaust system market is a competitive market, with a number of market players. Currently, the market is dominated by Benteler International, Faurecia SA, and Eberspacher. New product launches and partnerships, agreements, collaborations, and joint ventures are the major strategies adopted by market players to achieve growth in the exhaust system market.

The exhaust system is a vital component of the automobile, as it acts as an outlet for the exhaust gases generated during internal combustion (IC) of fuel in the engine. The system is composed of various devices which transfer the exhaust gases produced during IC to the tail pipe. The gases, such as oxides of carbon (CO, CO2), oxide of nitrogen (NOX), oxide of sulfur (SOX), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), hydrocarbons, and particulate matter (PM2.5, and PM10), are the key effluents of the vehicular exhaust. Components of the exhaust system include the exhaust manifold, oxygen sensors, exhaust pipes, catalytic converter, and muffler. The increasing demand for vehicles and upcoming emission norms in developing countries like India and China are driving the demand for exhaust systems.

In terms of vehicle type, exhaust systems have been classified as passenger car, LCV, and HCV. Passenger cars account for the largest market share of 87.6%, followed by LCV and HCV with market shares of 7.2% and 5.2% respectively.

The vehicles that are manufactured in Europe are efficiently engineered, safe, and high in quality. The majority of automobile manufacturers, such as Volkswagen, Fiat Chrysler, Renault, and BMW, have set up bases in Europe. The cars manufactured in the region include Lamborghini, Ferrari, BMW, Bugatti (also the fastest car in the world), and many others. However, in the wake of environmental concerns associated with the rising emission levels across the region, the European Union has introduced stringent emission norms to control emission levels. These regulations have compelled automobile manufacturers to develop technologically advanced exhaust systems to comply with the emission norms. The pressure of complying with emission norms has been transferred from automobile OEMs to automotive exhaust system manufacturers, who have consequently been investing heavily in R&D to develop new and improved exhaust systems.

Europe is one of the largest markets for passenger cars across the globe. The vehicle industry in Europe offers high-quality products that are engineered for better safety. Exports in the region in 2012 accounted for 15% more in terms of value than the previous year. The LCV segment is currently at par with the passenger car segment, and is set to surpass it in terms of CAGR. The key countries for the LCV segment in the region are Germany, France, and the U.K. HCVs have witnessed steady growth in the region as the countries are recovering from the economic crisis, equipped with government initiatives and stimulus packages. Trade and transport among countries has increased, consequently raising the need for HCVs in the region. As all three vehicle segments in the region are growing steadily, the automotive exhaust system market in the region is also projected to grow.

The Europe exhaust system market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.5% from 2014 to 2019.

New product launches and expansions are key strategies adopted by major players to gain traction in the Europe exhaust system market. Strategies such as partnerships, agreements, collaborations, joint ventures, and acquisitions were also adopted by a significant number of market players to strengthen their product portfolio and to expand their geographic presence.
