Well intervention is the process of intrusion in the well to enhance production which has declined due to change in reservoir conditions or any other operational difficulties. It also enhances the productivity of the existing wells. There are various techniques such as logging & bottom hole survey, tubing/packer failure & repair, stimulation, remedial cementing, zonal isolation, sand control services, artificial lift services, fishing, re-perforation etc., which are used according to the geological locations, type of service required, and other technological & commercial requirements of the service.
The need for well intervention typically occurs after five years of production, due to reduced pressure in wells, increased water cut or sand production, scaling in wells, and other factors. Generally, oil wells have a greater need for intervention than gas or injection wells. Operations such as through-tubing workover, using coiled tubing, snubbing or slick-line equipment are routinely conducted to complete treatments or well service activities to avoid a full workover where the tubing is removed.
In 2014, the North American region held 50% of the global well intervention market. The increasing servicing extent of offshore wells and horizontal drainage pattern are leading the double digit growth of American offshore well intervention market, has led to rise in the region for Well Intervention Market.
North American region endows 50% of the world’s Well Intervention Market. U.S. is the country with the highest oil reserves, accounts for about 64% of the oil reserves in this region, most of which is heavy & extra-heavy crude. The reserve to production (R/P) ratio in this region is very high and shows a growing trend with the discovery of new reserves signifying high exports in this region. Additionally, the land well of the Canada is also significant contributors to the well intervention/workover services revenue.
The North America well intervention market is expected to witness substantial growth, the main reason being the net exporter of hydrocarbons. The hydrocarbon export market exhibited a growing trend with a rising R/P ratio. The reserves are anticipated to last for about 84 years considering the present consumption levels and technically recoverable reserves into account.
This report estimates the North America well intervention market in terms of service type, application, and geography. The North America well intervention market was valued at $3,523.1 million in 2014, and is expected to reach $ 4,106.9 million in 2019. The U.S. has the largest share in the North America well intervention market followed by Canada
