The North American soy protein market is estimated to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 4.9%, during the period of 2014–2019. Soy protein is derived from soybean. It gives multiple health benefits. It helps to prevent cancer, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and many other diseases. Currently, the market trend is increasing gradually for soy proteins, which brings about awareness related to healthy diets.
Soy proteins provide various health benefits as they are considered to be the substitute of animal protein which caters almost all the amino acids requirements by humans. The soy protein market is segmented and projected on the basis of application, which includes bakery, confectionery, meat substitute, functional food, dairy alternative, baby food, and other applications. On the basis of types, the market is segmented into soy protein isolate, soy protein concentrate, soy flour, and other applications. Cost to produce all the soy proteins is almost same as there is slight modification in the production of different types of soy proteins.
The North America soy protein market is dominated by the U.S., followed by Canada. In the U.S., soy protein ingredients provide a protein-enhanced meat to the customers and so the consumption for the same is high. High demand for soy protein due to its high nutritional value is the main reason for the growth in the soy protein market. Soy protein is widely used as a meat alternative in the U.S.; thus, the market for the same is the largest.
The North American soy protein market is a competitive market, with firms such as The Solae Company (U.S.), ADM (U.S.) CHS, Inc. (U.S.), Cargill, Inc. Proteins are large biological molecules, or macromolecules, consisting of one or more long chains of amino acid residues performing a vast array of functions within living organisms. Soy protein is isolated from soybean. It is made from soybean meal which is processed into three kinds of high protein commercial products: soy flour, soy protein concentrates, and soy protein isolates. Soybean protein is a “complete protein” as it provides all of the essential amino acids required for human nutrition.
It is one of the least expensive sources of dietary protein and is the most preferred substitute to meat protein. It is widely used in the food and beverage industry, e.g., salad dressings, soups, meat analogues, beverage powders, cheeses, nondairy creamer, frozen desserts, whipped topping, infant formulas, breads, breakfast cereals, pastas, and pet foods. It is also used in adhesives, asphalts, resins, cleaning materials, cosmetics, inks, pleather, paints, paper coatings, pesticides/fungicides, plastics, polyesters, and textile fibers. It prevents osteoarthritis and reduces cholesterol level and colon cancer.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the North American soy protein market. This report includes revenue forecasts, market trends, and opportunities for the period from 2014 to 2019. The analysis has been conducted on various market segments derived on the basis of application of soy protein and further segmented on the basis of soy protein types.
The North American soy protein market was valued at $3,482.49 million in 2014 and is projected to reach $4,433.7 million by 2019, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 4.9% during the forecast period. The market, by application has led by meat substitutes in 2014, with a 25% share. The meat substitutes are mostly used as animal protein substitutes. Functional food has the highest CAGR % during the forecast period.
